I keep getting emails about this subject daily and this is going to be a no nonsense answer you may not like but must read carefully. QUESTION IS ALWAYS THE SAME, PLEASE CUT TO THE CHASE AND TELL US WHAT IS THE BEST AND MOST RELIABLE HANDGUN OUT THERE FOR SELF DEFENSE ??? Most Police, which I am including are Federal, State and Local authorities DO NOT CARRY 5 inch 1911 Colt type government model handguns. They do not carry single action commanders either. Most all serious Law Enforcement Agencies carry Glock Pistols, Sig Sauer Pistols, Beretta Pistols, and HK USP Pistols. WHY ??? Because they work and they work very well.

They do not require a fine tuned extractor or a specific brand of magazine or follower, or a longer ejector, or a lowered ejection port or a special hammer or sear or disconnector, etc, etc, etc, etc. You do not have to make an excuse that you carry 50 year old Full Metal Jacketed bullets that will give you 750 to 800 feet per second inorder to be sure it will feed reliably.
These pistols that I first mentioned such as Glock, Sig Sauer, Beretta, HK USP will digest anything like a garbage disposal, most anytime, and in any type of weather conditions.

I do specialize in trigger work and I recently asked an editor in a major publication if he knew anyone else in NORTH AMERICA that just does trigger work on over 100 different models of handguns like I do, HIS ANSWER WAS "NO" . I do know how to refine these 4 brands of pistols I have mentioned, just ask my customers. These new breed of handguns work out of the box everytime whether you like it or not, whether you want to admit it or not.

For those that have a love affair with the 1911 pistol there is nothing wrong with that, BUT almost every major LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCY in this country and abroad does not want to take your advice and start using 1911 Colt designs BECAUSE out of the box they are not always reliable, because not many people including the EXPERTS know how to fine tune the internals. Of course they can be made reliable. I have no reservations about carrying my 1911 that I either refined or made. The old 1911 full size all steel warhorse is big and heavy and its far more practical for a Federal agent that protects the President or who ever to carry a Sig Sauer P220 or a high capacity Glock Pistol in most any caliber.

I have a great affection for the 1911 pistol but its not a handgun I pick up first, its not my first choice in a pistol in defense of my life. I can feel just as comfortable if not more so using a Beretta 92F or a Sig Sauer P220, 228, 239 etc. My HK P7 M8 or my USP in 45 acp will do it all using any modern bullet regardless of it being a hollow point or whatever, it will not jam if I do my job and keep it clean and lubed. I am not restricted to carry ball ammo because it may not feed. I can use any good factory ammo with out a second thought. SO LIKE IT OR NOT the top four (4) brands of handguns being used by real life Professionals in real life and death situations are Glock, Sig Sauer, Beretta, and HK handguns. DEAL WITH IT. THIS IS NO BS, THIS IS THE REAL DEAL, YOU DON'T LIKE IT, "TOUGH"

I can be very comfortable going to a very serious social engagement for protection of life and property having any one of those pistols in my hand. Its not a problem for me because I never BS myself, "IT IS WHAT IT IS" I have enough problems in my daily life than to worry about the thought that my carry handgun may not feed this particular bullet or it does not like the follower or brand of magazine or my magazine catch does not hold the magazine high enough in the pistol to insure proper feeding, who needs that BS to worry about because some one wants to be a macho guy and says he carries his 1911 Government model.

Its my life that is on the line and I can live with the polymer frame and or the 16 round 92F filled with magsafe ammo or even if I carry a Glock 32 and use Hi Cap magazines filled with 357 sig caliber ammo, you show me who could walk away from receiving 2 or 3 direct vital hits with that caliber. My recommendation is that in the real world of survival Police Agencies are picking these models because they work, they are accurate, they very seldom have a problem, no grip safeties to worry about, some have no thumb safeties, this is the best there is at this point in time whether you like it or not. I go no where without one of these guns. The best small 45 acp semi auto pistols are the Glock 36, and the HK USP in 45 cal. If you can't handle the truth go back to the low grade forums where you will read what makes you happy. Read the publications out there that will tell you what you want to hear.

If you are looking for commentaries that will tell you what you want to hear, go buy a magazine publication or go to the forums. THERE ARE SOME GOOD FORUMS BUT IAM AM NOT GETTING INTO THAT TODAY.
