Basic SURVIVAL
WELCOME TO THE NO BS ZONE OF TEDDY JACOBSON
I want to talk about some issues that will effect your very survival if the unthinkable happens. There are enemies in this country that have been here for years and with our continuing open border policy its getting worse. I for one honestly believe the worst attacks are not "IF" but "WHEN"...
The more I read about guns, whether its on the internet or a gun publication the more I realize that some of these people are as brain dead as Kelseys nuts. Having the same authors for decades after decades has got to tell you something when they have been saying the same things for years and in the chat rooms you ask some one a simple question and he will gladly tell you how to write a book or a manifesto. To me their answers are as clear as what follows, TAKE THE REVIS WITH THE FISTERIS AND WEDGE IN INTO THE FORTISNAT, BENDING IT FORWARD AND USE MINOR LUBRICATION AND IF IT DOES NOT GO BANG CALL ME IN THE MORNING.
NOW, have I got your attention ?? I am a realist, I am not an optimist and I never lie to myself. When I look in a mirror I ain't looking at no fool. Having a gun of any kind is just the basics of what you will need to survive when we are attacked by these nut balls. When I read about all this BS regarding, AND WHAT WOULD YOU BUY AND WHAT WOULD YOU RECOMMEND AND THE CALIBER WARS CONTINUE AND ITS ALL BS AND MORE BS. And the professional politically correct writers continue with this line of BS whether its a rag or a room full of ninja keyboard kommandos. We are all faced with our own personal problems of making our own decisions of what we need to survive, forget the "EXPOITS" that come out of the closet and head for their keyboard at nite, to them this is heaven.
I have no written script and will just proceed as necessary to enlighten you.
I can only offer you my opinion from my experience, I can not ever tell you what is best for you. Each and every one of you have different requirements for your physical size and monetary budget. When you go into a gun shop you may not realize that they may have had a sales meeting that very morning and the owner or manager of that store may have instructed their sales people to push specific items that were in quantity and they had to move those ASAP. We do not know, you must use common sense in everything you buy. Most women can not and will never be able to pull the slide back if a semi auto has a strong recoil spring, its reality. Its not a thing I can make a judgement call on, its up to each and everyone to start to analyze what you will need to survive.
Aside from your selection of a handgun and a caliber that is "EASY" to find. You must think about what else you will need. I have always found a few types of handguns that I liked better than others and that motivated me to have more than one of those models. I like to have 2 or 3 of the very same pistol so I could always canabalize one for parts. I always have extra springs and extra holsters. I have become very open minded in realizing that it is not necessary to go out and buy a $2000.00 production 1911 pistol when I can buy a few Springfield Armory (SA) 1911 pistols (mil-spec) and put in my upgrade kit and use good springs and it will shoot as good or even better with the original factory barrel than your expensive 1911, believe it or not. There is not a doubt in my mind that these upgraded SA 1911 pistols will do anything that your high dollar jewel will do. AND YOU WILL NOT NEED AN ASSISTANT TO HELP YOU RACK THE SLIDE.
Please do not get me wrong the custom 1911 pistols I have made (past tense) were different because I went the extra mile to bake coatings in the slide and on the barrel and on the frame rails and they even felt different, mine were fully jeweled inside with ceramic particles and that is not only very difficult but very costly in materials that I used. Of which 75% were for collectors only.
Getting back on track lets now talk about your very gun survival kit. Everyone should have a 22 rifle chambered in long rifle. It does not have to be a semi auto, it could be a bolt action or a lever action or what ever you like, but its a wonderful survival rifle if you have the ammo to go with it. In my case I think optics are more important than the actual rifle you pick. I have no problem spending 500 dollars for a high dollar Leupold scope and mounts. The optics are the key in this scenario. I would consider buying a Nikon scope also, cheap optics are out of the question. Its your choice as to which rifle you like, I do not work on them and so I can not tell you which is best, although I like the Ruger 10/22 with a target grade barrel.
For your handguns you should have everything in a carry bag for quick emergencies whether it be extra magazines and or parts like firing pins and springs or cleaning equipment, etc, etc. I would only keep the survival handgun equipment segregated from other handguns in your collection. You can leave the classics in your safe but just concentrate on your emergency bag and be sure to put a knife in your bag also with a knife shapening stone. In my case I use a diamond plate. You should have more than one knife, if you are looking for the best buy in knives for the money, two companies come to mind, one is CRKT (columbia river knife and tool) and the other is Cold Steel. Of course there are other very good knives out there but these two brands are tops for the money.
Some people like serrated blades and others do not, again it does not matter to me, its your choice but they should have at least a 4 inch blade.
In this emergency bag you should have some pain pills like aspirin or advil or aleve. You should have extra glasses if you need them to see clearly. You may need other over the counter medications that I would not be aware of your needs, if you need good eye drops get "Vasocon A" , you will need a small first aid kit in case you get cut or wounded and some anti radiation tablets that I mentioned in a previous commentary. If you do not want to use a carry bag for all this you can get a good plastic fishing tackle box that will hold some basic tools for your handgun disassembly procedure. I think you should start a "TO DO" list and write things down as they come to you, you may need a few Bic lighters and some light sticks and a good flash light with extra batteries. Let me mention that Blackhawk industries has just come out with an LED flashlight that has constant light but also has a strobe effect. Its brand new and they already have 10,000 back orders. I would stay with LED white bulbs as they will last longer than any other type of bulb. I THINK HAVING A SMALL "GPS" NAVIGATION UNIT IS VERY IMPORTANT. There are many kinds and they do work very well.
I like to stock up on batteries and I keep extra radios of different varieties for an emergency and some are short wave. Nothing is cheap but you need at least one good radio. If you want you can contact the Crane company for one of their wind up radios that do not use batteries. Having a miniature TV will help with a 2 inch screen (active Matrix) as long as the local channels are still working. The problem is that we are facing the un known and its coming, we just do not know when. Our country has never been faced with an enemy where just a few can destroy millions and you must take this very seriously, this is not a cartoon or computer game. What is going to happen after the Israelis take out the nuclear facility in Iran, we do not know what we are in for, get prepared now.
I know many people are buying MRE's (meals ready to eat). I have never tried any but my son Charles told me they were good and are available. I tend to buy ENSURE or BOOST which is fine for me. I can easily live on 3 or 4 cans a day for quite a while. I am sure many of you know a lot more about food than I do, I am just trying to get you to think of what you need in your kit. Make sure you seal your primers of your centerfire ammunition and I suggest you also seal around where the bullet is seated at the rim of the case. Nail polish will be too thick for this and you will have to use Mr. Camps ceramic primer sealer to do this without jepardizing the integrity of the loaded bullet. If moisture gets in through the crimped area of the bullet and into the powder you could have a problem. Lets not forget anything. www.hipowersandhandguns.com
I have been typing for hours and I have lost a good portion of this commentary because of internal server problems on the blogger end. This is the very reason that I have intentionally slowed down my commentaries until they can fix the problem.
There are a great many people that read my commentaries and am very greatful to have Terry Murbach read every blogger as he is sharp as a tack and hes the real deal. I look forward to him analyzing everything I write. I am delighted to have John Taffin read my thoughts also, hes the last of the old guard and he is the one that made AH and GUNS what it is today, hes a fine man. Then theres my friend Stephen Camp who is totally honest with everyone, and super smart and he also is kind enough to read and analyze my bloggers and all I ever want is total honesty. If we had more people like this in the world of guns and our lives and what is written for the public we would have a far better industry and the BS would stop. I am not politically correct and the gun industry people know me a long time and they could have learned a lot from me, all they had to do was ask.
I can not tell you how many gun writers have called me in the past 20 years to explain something to them and I never turned them down, even one from Gun Test. We are losing some of our best craftsmen to old age and of course there are still some very talented people out there but I only do trigger work and I know more now then ever but declining health has forced me to decline a great many jobs. I want you to understand that it is nothing personal, its so I can survive a little longer as I do not have many options. I am going to end this commentary before I lose it all and try and get it published. If you have a question please email me and I will answer you.
START TO GET YOUR SURVIVAL KIT READY NOW AS IT MAY TAKE YOU A WHILE. DO NOT WAIT. WRITE THINGS DOWN SO YOU DO NOT FORGET.
AUTHORS PERSONAL NOTATION:
