Despite The advent of compact semi autos in large calibers, the smaller handguns seem to be the most favored defense and off duty choices in todays world. In my numerous contacts with people its obvious to me that the smaller calibers are most prevalent among the criminal element, as well as what most ordinary people carry for defense. One inescapable fact is that there are more people carrying a defense handgun for obvious reasons. There are an amazing number of 22 and 25 and 32 caliber weapons that are being carried and used.

The upper end of the small caliber weapons is still dominated by the 380 acp caliber. This is about the very least caliber I will rely on for a back up weapon. Although for a third gun I have no problem using my 22 magnum revolver made by North American Arms. With the right factory loads the 380 acp can be very deadly. There have been many people that have been shot and killed with a 380 acp cartridge.

The 380 acp dates back to 1908 and when using the old Colts pocket pistol it listed the 95 grain bullet at a velocity of 955 feet per second. It sometimes chronographs less due to barrel length. The 380 acp is a straight wall case that headspaces on the front rim or mouth of the case and if you handload you can easily improve its performance. Using Unique reloading powder and a 90 grain bullet you can average a velocity of about 1050 feet per second depending on the length of your barrel. There are powders that are more efficient with short barrels.

Years ago Magsafe bullets changed all this and the original owner whose name was Joe Zambone achieved tremendous velocities using a pre fragmented bullet that weighed 52 grains and its stated velocity was about 1720 feet per second with 342 foot pounds of energy. This type of cartridge has put the small 380 round in a different category. This type of bullet does tremendous damage on entry. You do not want to use ultra high velocity ammunition in a well throated barrel where there is no case support on the web of the case.

In todays world there are so many options for small weapons and people are very confused. If you carry a small 1911 (45 cal.) design pistol with a 3 inch barrel, you must know that when they say it has a three inch barrel they are including the chamber, so that in itself in a 45 acp caliber is about one inch which really gives you only two inches of rifling. Using a 230 grain hard ball cartridge with 2 inches of rifling may give you a velocity of 650 to 700 feet per second, depending on the powder being used. This is nothing to brag about and makes no sense.

I would rather carry a 380 acp using a 90 grain Hollow Point bullet that will give me a velocity of 1100 feet per second in my small Colt Mustang.
Its all what you have been led to believe all these years that you need a heavy large caliber 45 acp by the BS that you have read everywhere. Everyone has had an agenda whether its a publication seeking advertising money or a forum or chat room to get enough people so that they can get paid advertisers. The BS stops here.

I like to carry a 9mm caliber handgun using a 100 grain Corbon Powerball bullet that has a velocity of 1475 feet per second and the foot pounds of energy is way up there. My Glock 19 holds 16 rounds of pure hell plus carrying an extra magazine of 15 rounds gives me 31 rounds. Now if I want a second gun I can select a small 380 acp pistol or a 22 magnum revolver. My secondary or my third handgun does not have to be accurate at two feet away, it simply must work everytime. I want to hear a bang and not a click.

One of the very important subjects I want to mention is the new Blackhawk Gladius flashlight that has a strobe effect. This small flashlight comes with a ceramic finish that I understand is CERAKOTE by NIC INDUSTRIES. This strobe effect of the Gladius is instantly blinding and will stop an attacker instantly. I own a Gladius and you can not look at this strobe light when turned on. I would like to see Surefire come out with this type of flashlight. I have written them about this technology.

Having a flashlight like this new Blackhawk Gladius is a must for the serious person that wants the very best technology that money can buy. The retail price of this light is about $235.00 and a soft carry case is extra. Ask your self what your life is worth. It uses two C123 lithium batteries if I remember right. go to www.blackhawk.com

I suggest you start taking your very survival very serious and these 9 to 5 schmucks are going to learn one very bitter lesson in due time as we are living in a very dangerous world. I have absolutely no sympathy for a person or a liberal minded person that will not take our situation very serious. Just owning a handgun is not enough as you must be trained in its safety and its proper use in actually firing a small handgun of anykind.

When I think back to years ago when you could leave your doors unlocked, those days are gone forever. Our borders are wide open and many of our criminal inmates that commit these crimes are illegal aliens that this present administration has ignored for the past 5 years. I have no true facts as to their agenda and why they did this, but it is the people like you and me that will pay the price.

You must have a proper handgun that you will be comfortable with, in using it and carrying it and being trained in its safe handling and storage. There was a wonderful TEXAS woman that saved her life and the life of her grandaughter recentely by shooting an intruder in her very house. This is a perfect example of what we are up against. Your "MINDSET" is the key to survival. Unless you have trained your mind to think instantly and NOT hesitate to react properly you will become a victim.

Many people are killed with small calibers. You do not need to carry a 3 lb. handgun to protect your self. With todays advancement in ammunition you can easily carry a smaller caliber that will do the job. I have always believed this and never believed the BS that you need a very large caliber to do the job. With the selection of the right cartridge you will do fine providing you have trained your mind to react without hesitation. If you hestiate or do not know what to do you will be carried by six instead of being tried by twelve.

Its very important that you not only carry a good tactical knife but learn how to use it. Most people do not sharpen a knife correctly and that is very important. Many companies make some very good production knives that you must look into. go to www.tacticalknives.blogspot.com
A knife is a very personal weapon where as a small handgun does not have to be up close and personal. In the end its your choice to make. I can only lead you to the water, I can not make you drink.

TOP STORY
EGYPT AND THE MUSLIM BROTHERHOOD

Despite an unusual effort by Egypt’s President Muhammad Hosni Mubarak to appear calm and decisive as he presided over the opening of the post-election parliament in Cairo, he not disguise his obvious anger and his deep concern over Egypt’s political future.

Hosni Mubarak Mubarak, regarded as one of the most consistent supporters of U.S. in the Middle East, was forced to welcome all parliament members, including those belonging to the Muslim Brotherhood group, outlawed since 1954, which brazenly declares itself a rival of the Egyptian secular administration. The Brotherhood, whose title derives from Muslim mystique philosophies, are self-declared enemies of the U.S., whose “global democracy effort” paved the way for their very success at the ballots.

Eighty-eight opposition members representing the illegal yet tolerated Muslim group watched the president as he addressed parliament, without hiding their expressions of victory and deep contempt. Despite attempts to block their ascension by eventually closing the doors of voting stations in neighborhoods where they are known to be the majority, they succeeded in gaining 88 seats. Thugs from the ruling National Democratic Party and, as the reining government’s alarm increased, the police and secret service, managed to obstruct only part of the ballots from becoming a Muslim Brotherhood success.

The government’s anti-Brotherhood activities became irrelevant because, as one Muslim Brotherhood activist said, “Everybody knows that our 88 parliament members reflect the majority of Egyptian Muslims. From our point of view we won the elections.” The government’s attempts to emphasize that the NDP won a landslide victory were described by a number of diplomats in Cairo as a pitiful.

The most dramatic crack in the political wall built by Mubarak administrations since the October 1981 assassination of President Anwar Sadat is being carefully and thoroughly scrutinized all over the Middle East. The Muslim militants’ success is seen by many similar groups, some even more militant than the aspiring Brotherhood, as a sign Egypt is moving in the right direction, namely on the way to becoming a Muslim Sharia state. Ironically and, perhaps, ultimately even tragically, the militants correctly analyzed the U.S. march for a democratic system as a means to gain power through the democratic process.

It is perhaps worth mentioning here that historically more than one tyranny ascended to power by abusing a democratic system -- Adolf Hitler’s Nazi Party probably being the most infamous of all. Groups in Syria, Jordan, some Gulf states, Saudi Arabia and others, who know they cannot bring down an autocratic government by force, now hope they will manage to do so as the U.S. continues to preach and pressure governments for democracy, apparently neglecting to correctly assess the final outcome which would be anything but democratic.

The scenarios emerging from Egypt and the Palestinian Authority will soon begin to bother the U.S. and her western allies, and are already entirely unacceptable to Israel, situated as it is in the midst of it all. The danger of a destructive domino affect in the Middle East is, according to Israeli intelligence analysts, the result of bold attitudes adopted by Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, who apparently does not fully comprehend the Middle East’s intricate socio-political map.

A democratic society, such as that of the U.S. or Israel, is not suitable to other nations, certainly not to countries such as Egypt or the Palestinian Authority, where there are strong anti-democratic movements aspiring to become the country’s totalitarian autocratic rulers. This grim analysis can already be seen through declarations made by Muslim Brotherhood chieftains and by leaders of Hamas. Both the Brotherhood and al-Qaida, the Islamic Jihad and most mujahedeen around the world, are Sunnis with spiritual roots at the al-Azhar University and mosques in Cairo.

Mehdi Akef, the spiritual leader of the Muslim Brotherhood, a man who spent more than 20 years in Egyptian jails and now a jubilant leader of ordinary devoted Muslims, said: “We welcome the Jews in Palestine only as individuals but we don’t agree to their state. … I have declared that we will not recognize Israel, which is an alien entity in the region and we expect the demise of this cancer soon.” The words of Akef were monitored in Israel where current evaluations state there is an umbilical cord linking between the older, larger and stronger, Muslim Brotherhood and Hamas.

Only days prior to final election results in Egypt, and shortly before Hamas emerged as the main political force in the Palestinian Authority, Akef, holding court in his Cairo residence, received Miriam Farhat, nicknamed “The Mother of all Martyrs,” in a special audience. Farhat is a suicide bomber’s mother who became an almost mythological figure in Palestinian militant circles. During the meeting, interpreted by Palestinian voters as an endorsement of Hamas by the rising Muslim Brotherhood, Akef made it clear one of his movement’s major goals will be to annul the Egypt-Israel peace accord.

Many perceive this statement to be a clear battle cry against U.S. policies in the Middle East, where the U.S. brokered Israel-Egypt peace accord is a regional cornerstone. Similar promises were made by Muslim Brotherhood supporters in Jordan who were quick to reflect on the success of the Brotherhood in Egypt. Relations between the Muslim Brotherhood and the Palestinians date back to the ‘30s. They provided material supplies and sent volunteers to support the Arab rebellion against the British between 1936 and 1939. They supported the Nazi regime during World War II, including help given to the German intelligence to recruit Palestinian agents who were later parachuted into Palestine with orders to conduct sabotage operations.

During the early stages of the first Arab-Israeli war in 1948, and before the full-scale invasion of Arab armies, Muslim Brotherhood volunteers formed infantry battalions who were dispatched to Palestine and their members fought in the Jerusalem area helping to tighten the siege on the Jewish part of the city. The legacy of the Brotherhood’s involvement in the 1948 war is an important factor in the organization’s claim to fame.

Even in the ‘50s and ‘60s when the organization was banned following their attempts to assassinate post monarchy Egyptian leaders, Brotherhood propagandists continued to highlight “the bravery of the Brothers.” From the ‘60s onward, their ideas gave birth to such groups as the Islamic Jihad, Brotherhood copycats across the Arab world and in the Arab Diaspora, and even the creation of al-Qaida whose No. 2, Dr. Ayman al-Zawahiri, is an Egyptian who for years supported the Brotherhood. The Brotherhood’s success in Egypt did not come as a surprise to the Israeli intelligence community, nor was it surprised to watch the ascension of Hamas and other militants in the Palestinian Authority.

A source close to the inner circles of Prime Minister Ariel Sharon told G2B the U.S., and more specifically Rice, were constantly advised of the dangers stemming from their fervent democracy drive in the Middle East. One source told G2B the secretary has been nicknamed “The Australian,” since her well-intended democracy drive turns around like a boomerang hitting the administration straight in the face. The Israeli sources admit they have not been able to explain to Rice the danger imbued in her demand for rapid democratic changes. Similar warnings were expressed by the Mubarak administration – all in vain.

Middle east intelligence sources and analysts in the region predict:

· A period of volatile unrest in Egypt could lead to iron-fist policies imposed by the Mubarak administration while at the same time trying to appease Muslim leadership through hard-line policies towards the U.S. and Israel.

· Polarization of the Palestinian Authority by intensifying the terrorist jihad campaign and moving away from the so-called Road Map to peace.

· Establishments of stronger ties between Palestinian militants and Syria, which currently hosts Hamas leadership. This development will also strengthen ties between the Muslim Brotherhood, Hamas and Iran, crossing the traditional Shiia-Sunni rift.

· Full coordination between Hamas, the Islamic Jihad in Palestine and Egypt, and the Hezbollah.

· Increased militant activity against the ruling Hashemite family in Jordan, with ripple effects reaching Saudi Arabia, the Gulf and Iraq.

· Rapid growth of support to the Muslim Brotherhood in the Arab-Sunni Diaspora in Europe, Africa, north America, but most of all in Latin America. In an area of the world where symbols and metaphors play a significant role in the political culture, a verse echoes more than a thousand words: “Jina Ta Nekachel’ha-amenaha,” meaning “We tried to beautify her with brilliant eye make-up but instead we blinded her,” or in plain words – “we meant to do something good through our pressure for instant democracy, and it turned out bad.”

U.S. official warns of 'catastrophic' weapons use

By Bill Gertz - THE WASHINGTON TIMES - December 11, 2005

A senior State Department official is warning that terrorists are continuing to seek nuclear, chemical and biological weapons for use in future attacks. "If terrorists acquire these weapons, they are likely to employ them, with potentially catastrophic effects," said Robert Joseph, undersecretary of state for arms control and the senior Bush administration arms proliferation policy-maker.

Mr. Joseph also said the U.S. government will not back off from sanctions imposed on an Asian bank that the Treasury Department said was part of the North Korean government's illegal counterfeiting and money-laundering program. On terrorism, Mr. Joseph said a well-organized terrorist group with technical expertise could fashion a crude nuclear device once it obtains the fissile material for the bomb's fuel.

Biological weapons also would be used in an attack by terrorists because of the availability of dual-use equipment and access to pathogens, some of which occur naturally, he said. "The bioterror challenge presents a low-cost means of a potentially high-impact attack," Mr. Joseph said in a speech Friday at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville.

A copy of his remarks was obtained by The Washington Times. "We cannot rest as long as enough material for even one nuclear weapon remains unsecured," he said. U.S. intelligence officials have said al Qaeda was working on developing nuclear, chemical and biological weapons in Afghanistan under the Taliban regime. Documents obtained from al Qaeda facilities there showed that the group had conducted research and some experiments.

Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden also has said that obtaining nuclear arms is a religious duty for his extremist followers. On North Korea, Mr. Joseph said the administration will not back off the sanctions imposed in September on Macao-based Banco Delta Asia. The Treasury Department has said that senior bank officials took large sums of counterfeit U.S. currency from North Korean government officials and agreed to put it into circulation.

North Korea's government announced recently that because of the sanctions, it would not return to the six-party talks on its nuclear program. "We have made it clear that, while we are committed to pursuing successful six-party negotiations, we have no choice but to continue our defensive measures to ensure that we can protect ourselves from the proliferation actions of the North, as well as from its illicit activities such as money laundering or counterfeiting," Mr. Joseph said. He said both the North Korea and Iran are major proliferation challenges.

"There should be no doubt that both countries have such programs," Mr. Joseph said. "President Bush has made clear that, while all options remain on the table, our strong preference is to address these threats through diplomacy."
