Fact vs. BS - Part 3

Drop in parts - There is very little truth to this saying as this is designed to get the gun owner to actually believe he can just buy parts and they will drop in therefore not need to employ a Gunsmith or a Pistolsmith. Buying 1911 parts is a multi million dollar business that has made a number of people very wealthy. Just think about this scenario I am going to present to you, if you buy a 1911 pistol that is made over seas and you install the parts as drop in, no frames and or slides are alike in dimensions as there are so many out there. How can you make a drop in part that will fit them all. Example is for you to buy a 1911 Para Ordnance pistol and fit in an American made trigger and grip safety, and see if it just drops in.

Many companies are now using a 9mm firing pin in their 1911 pistols that are chambered in 45 acp. I personally do not like this idea as it was a solution to a non existant problem so you would have to buy their firing pins. I have never seen a shooter damaged from firing a 1911 pistol that was chambered in 45 acp using a 45 caliber firing pin, it was all BS from day one.

If you buy a Wilson high ride grip safety it has a specific radius and lets say you buy a Brown high ride grip safety, well they require a different tang radius and they can not be just swapped out. Once you make a specific radius cut, thats it, you must use a grip safety with that radius. Many people do not understand this. This is all designed around Benjamin Franklin. I much prefer that my 1911 have an old fashioned straight spur hammer that I can cock with one hand. I like to keep things very simple.

Most people that install night sights usually bang them on. This could cause your sights to go dead very quickly. Tritium sights should never be banged into the dove tail especially with a steel punch because you run the risk of not only denting your sights but even more critical is you will jepardize the integrity of the glass or aluminum tritium gas vial. If you ruin the vial seal the tritium will leak rather quickly and you may have one bright rear dot and the other is barely visible. Installation of night sights is critical for long life and brightness. Never just trust anyone cause they are "CHEAP"...

Many people keep writing me and always ask which guns made today do not use MIM parts, well the answer is that there are very few companies that have not cheapened there guns with MIM parts. When a MIM part is made well and there are no air bubbles it should work fine. If you buy a MIM hammer for a 1911 pistol you will not be able to square up the hammer hooks using a standard file because the MIM part is harder than most files. I have figured out how to do all this on MIM hammers but I do not teach gunsmithing. This is a very difficult procedure cutting MIM steel.

Mainspring Housings do NOT always drop in, many require fitting because of the different frame dimensions. Again you can get into serious trouble thinking that you are buying drop in parts. I am sure many of you found out that what I am writing is true. Through the past years I had many people call me with a laundry list of parts that they ALREADY PURCHASED and wanted me to install these parts in their 1911 pistol. They never consulted me what they should buy and I turned all these jobs down as many parts that people buy with good intentions are in my opinion pure junk.

My expertise has always been geared up to improving the internals. I always wanted to have a stock looking pistol or revolver because if a shooting occurs and one of us have to go before a grand jury I want the handgun to be as stock as possible. Many people want all the bells and whistles that are out there. My parrallel scenario to you is when you put a fox tail on the antenna of your car and you install mud flaps, DOES YOUR CAR RUN BETTER ?? Of course not, its all BS. Keep your carry handgun very simple.

I have given up trying to deal with many people, especially target shooters that know it all. Most all the time I just tell them I will pass. You can not please many target shooters......Period.......

I try and talk people into keeping their original sights because its just as easy for me to drill dots and or enlarge the dots and use fluorescent paint. I keep very plain sights on my carry Glock, I installed a steel front sight and painted the dot with a fluorescent yellow paint that is ideal for what want. I no longer buy night sights for my personal handguns because I need color as my eyes can pick it up better. Remember to keep things very simple and never let anyone talk you into bells and whistles that you do not need.

With all the BS of the caliber wars and these old die hards keep saying you have nothing unless you carry a 45 acp using 230 grain hardball, I put up FBI statistics showing the calibers that have put more people in the ground and you can see this at www.tjofsugarland.blogspot.com You must carry what you feel comfortable with and remember its always BULLET PLACEMENT, BULLET PLACEMENT, BULLET PLACEMENT. The rest is all BS.

For the women out there that can not pull the slide back on their semi auto handgun, heres what you do. If your pistol has an exposed hammer always cock the hammer first, you will be getting the hammer spring out of the way. Next grab the slide in one hand and your frame in the other. Now lock your elbows out and you will rotate your shoulders which will allow you to rack the slide of your pistol much easier. Never walk the bullet in, release the slide while it is all the way back and let the spring slam the slide forward. This procedure will help all the women out there.

LETTER FROM ARGENTINA - PART II

GRAY/BLACK MARKET

Once the SHTF the black/gray market will take no time to appear all around you.
In my country, gray markets were even accepted in the end. At first it was all about trading skills or craft products for food. Districts and towns would form their own barter markets, and created their own tickets, similar to money, that was used to trade.
This didnâ€™t last long. Those tickets were easy to make on your home computer, there was no control and eventually people went back to paper money.

These markets were usually placed on warehouses or empty land, and were managed by some wise guy and a few thugs or hired security. Anyone can go rent a kiosk inside these markets for about 50-100 pesos (about 20-30 dollars) a day and sell his goods and services. Peace within these markets is usually respectedâ€¦ lets just say that these managers donâ€™t call the police if someone tries anything funny, like stealing, fighting or taking advantage of women. Thatâ€™s not good for their business and anyone that tries to mess with their business finds out how much pain the human body can actually experience or gets a free ticket to meet the Lord. Sometimes even uniformed cops manage security on these markets, for a small fee of course.

As always, you still have to be careful. They may still try to pick your pockets or even attack you once you leave the market. Once you leave the market, you are on your own, as always.
These markets evolved and now a lot of different products are available. Today I visited my local market, a warehouse that is fairly well set up and cleanly managed. They had problems for selling stolen merchandise and fake Brand name clothes a few days ago.

What can be found at a local markets? Mostly food and clothing. Some have more variety than others but cheese, canned food, spices, honey, eggs, fruits, vegetables, beer, wine and cured meat are generally available, same as bakery products and pasta. These are less expensive than those found at supermarkets. Fresh fish is sometimes available but not always, people donâ€™t trust much products that need refrigeration, and they get those at supermarkets instead.
Clothes are also popular and you can find copies of brand name clothes, imitations, or even original stolen new clothes, the same goes for shoes and snickers.

Children clothes, underwear, socks, sheets and towels are all very popular. Some sell toys, but they are always China made, mostly poor quality though there are some few exceptions. Others sell tools, also made in China can be found as well, but they are of poor quality. Some offer their services and repair stuff or offer work as handyman.

You would be amazed of the junk that these guys manage to fix: TVs, CD players, Power tools, etc. They even manage to solder the small integrated circuits boards sometimes. Give one of these guys a screw driver and a bar of chocolate and he will fix a nuclear submarine.
After food and clothes, the third most popular item has to be CDs and DVDs, movies, music, Play Station 2 and Xbox games, programs, it all ends up there just one or two days after the official release in USA. Seems that they have a guy hidden under Bill Gates' desk or something.

Anyway, almost everything can be found there, and if you want, you can ask around, talk to the right guy and buy illegal stuff like drugs or black market guns and ammo. The quality of the drugs is questionable, of course, and a lot of addicts die from the mixtures these guys sell. Guns are mostly FM [Argentine] High Powers, Surplus 1911s and Colt .45s, Sistemas [Argentine Colt 1911 clones], and old Colt Detective revolvers in .38 special that found their way from police and military armories into the black market. Condition isnâ€™t very good but if you have money youâ€™ll be amazed of what you can end up with.

Everything that is used by the military and police, including SMGs a, Browning .50 BMG Machine guns, and even frag[mentation] grenades, is available in the black market, if the customer has the amount of money and a little patience, of course. The big guns may take a while, but the handguns and grenades are readily available.

GOLD
Someone hit me in the head please because I messed up about the gold issue. Everyone [in Argentina] wants to buy gold! â€œI buy gold. Pay cashâ€ signs are everywhere, even on TV! I canâ€™t believe Iâ€™m that silly! I just didnâ€™t relate it to what I read here because they deal with junk gold, like jewelry, either stolen or sold because they needed the money, not the gold coins that you guys talk about. No one pays for the true value of the stuff, so [consider this a] big WARNING! sign on people that are buying gold coins. Since it is impossible to determine the true mineral percentage of gold, small shops and dealers will pay for it as regular jewelry gold. What I would do if I were you: Besides gold coins, buy a lot of small gold rings and other jewelry.

They should be less expensive than gold coins, and if the SHTF bad, youâ€™ll not be loosing money, selling premium quality gold coins for the price of junk gold. If I could travel back in time, Iâ€™d buy a small bag worth of gold rings.
Small time thieves will snatch gold chains right out of your neck and sell them at these small dealers found everywhere. This is VERY common at train stations, subways and other crowded areas.

So, my advice, if you are preparing for a small economical crisis, gold coins make sense. You will keep the value of the stuff and be able to sell it for its actual cost to gold dealers or maybe other survivalists that know the true value of the item. In my case, gold coins would have been an excellent investment, saving me from loosing money when the local economy crashed. Even though things are bad, I can go to a bank down town and get paid for what a gold coin is truly worth, same goes for pure silver. But where I live, in my local are small time dealers will only pay you the value of junk gold, no matter what kind of gold you have. So, Iâ€™d have to say that if TSHTF bad, gold jewelry is a better trade item than gold coins. Forgive me for not talking about this before, but I didnâ€™t realize this until today, when I visited my local market warehouse and saw a â€œBuy Goldâ€ sign.

The French riots may show signs of subsiding, but intelligence analysts say the two-week uprising by mainly Muslim immigrants is not likely to be last of the problems Europe faces from nearly uncontrolled immigration policies of several decades.

The human flood of legal and illegal immigration from the Third World, on-going since shortly after the end of World War II, is maturing into an explosive social problem as second- and third-generation immigrants demand equal economic and social opportunities in their adopted countries. With many of the underprivileged being Muslim an even greater threat looms over Western Europe -- as dangerous militant Islamists will easily feed on the misery of the poor.

The fact the West is not quite as rich as some two decades ago and that the overall unemployment rate is constantly increasing, means little to millions of impoverished people dreaming of a place where a welfare system can alleviate their problems. Almost daily reports on illegals crossing the Mediterranean on their way to Spain, or on others coming via the Aegean and the Adriatic seas to Italy, is an indication of the massive onslaught on the industrial world. Land routes, for example, between Central Asia and Europe are just as common with scores of illegal immigrants walking for weeks in their quest to reach the "promised lands."

In the western hemisphere where a similar onslaught is waged on the U.S., immigrants, millions of them, will go to any length and take many risks, to enter the USA where they believe gold can be picked up from the sidewalks. So far, most politicians have avoided confronting the problem, afraid of being accused of racism or ethnic bias. This politically correct attitude on the problem of mass migrations is creating social and cultural time bombs ready to blow up any time now. The events in France's capital are, therefore, a grim reminder to politicians that all aspects of legal and illegal immigration must become a top priority on their agenda and that further delays and avoidance are endangering the stability of their nations.

In October, as the Spanish government became alarmed and opened its eyes to face the human tsunami coming from Africa and the Arab world, Prime Minister José Luis Rodriguez Zapatero hosted his French counter-part, Dominique de Villepin, to discuss immigration. The two agreed to call for an urgent Spanish-French-African dialogue to discuss ways to stop the influx of millions of Africans, whether Muslims, Christians or those holding indigenous beliefs, striving to join millions of their compatriots already based in Europe.

For France this meeting came too late. Early signs of the so-called Francofada came in August when buildings housing poor African immigrants were set ablaze. The fires, probably having been ignited by extreme right-wing hoodlums, were not dealt with as a priority by the Paris police. However, reviewing these arson cases reveals these seemingly sporadic incidents may have been the trigger igniting the riots. Many unemployed and uneducated youngsters probably concluded fire should be fought with fire. When the police were initially called to deal with rioting African youth, predominantly from the Ivory Coast and Senegal, only a few in the French internal security establishment realized events were about to get out of control.

Youth gangs, unemployed young men, the uneducated and the disenfranchised segment of society, took aimlessly to the streets, and in what is clearly an unorganized expression of rage, attacked public buildings and transportations and set ablaze the umber one symbol of western civilization – the car. The ethnic background of the rioters, most of them African created the impression events were a jihadi challenge to France. However, closely examining the incidents shows only a small number of rioters actually used religious slogans to back their use of Molotov cocktails. The immediate reaction in Europe was fear of events developing into a major Muslim outburst of anger creating the next generation of al-Qaida warriors from amongst tens of thousands Ghetto style residents.

The French media bluntly turned its attention to the problem's core namely, unrestrained and uncontrolled immigration. Le Figaro, the No. 1 selling French daily, clearly analyzed the problem as "a policy of immigration without control." Other newspapers and columnists followed suit, and although identifying some religious aspects to the riots, put their finger on lack of immigration policies and lack of laws aimed, not only at curbing waves of economic immigration, but also at protecting the French culture and traditions. Similar reactions can be seen and heard from across Europe.

In the past, similar events occurred in France, Belgium Germany and elsewhere on the continent. Still, there are differences in the backgrounds, numbers and economic conditions of the ethnic groups. Twenty-five years later 1.6 million Muslims in the U.K. are by and large employed and highly successful. Most of those originating from the Indian sub-continent strive for success with many, definitely those of the second and third generations, highly educated as doctors and lawyers, businessmen, policemen and even politicians. It should be noted that pro-jihadi Britons of the Muslim faith joined the ranks of global jihad not because of their living conditions in poor neighborhoods but rather for a much more sinister reason namely, the jihadi cause. More than 6 million people in France, roughly 10 percent of the population, are African and North African, perhaps the majority of them Muslims.

They reside mostly in slum neighborhoods, or government housing projects, where the unemployment rate is between 40 to 50 percent compared to 10 percent in the general population. Governments in Europe will undoubtedly draw various conclusions from the events in an attempt to prevent such riots from becoming an unwelcome tradition. There is also very little doubt the fires brought immigration intricacies to the doorsteps of every Frenchmen. The U.S. has also witnessed many cases of social and race related outbursts. But the next wave, if there is one, is surely to come as a result of uncontrolled immigration policies that mimic those of Europe.

Lack of determination by the U.S. to protect her borders, her culture and her way of life, will become the main issue future administrations will have to deal with. If the riots in Paris are the writing on the wall for the wealthy European countries, they should definitely also be regarded as an alarm to U.S. leaders and the electorate they represent.
