The NRA Show in Houston

WELCOME TO THE NO BS ZONE OF TEDDY JACOBSON

I attended the NRA show in Houston, Texas on Saturday, April 16, 2005 and it was my son Charles that drove me down there and we met my friend Jeff about 11:30 am. We were running late because of an accident that bogged down traffic on the Southwest Freeway (US 59). I had not been to the George Brown Convention Center in about 12 years. They increased the size of the convention center that was unreal as many years ago I used to set up 2 tables at all the gun shows that were there. Parking was difficult but it was available blocks away as we got there a little late. I live about 18 miles from the George Brown Center.

My intent was to sit at the Militec booth for a few hours which I did and many people came by to see me. I was very pleased to see many people that I have known for many years. Bob who was running the Militec booth was a retired Col. in the United States Army and it was a real pleasure to have a frank conversation with him. Militec metal treatment is a wonderful lubricant for firearms and I of course use it in all my trigger work and on my personal knives at the folding joint.
This is the lubricant that our military should be using in the desert.

I did not walk around much because I was unable to stay on my feet very long but I did manage to see Sandy Chisolm who is the owner of North American Arms and Wayne Martin of NAA who is sharp as a tack and the company is very lucky to have someone like Wayne. We had an excellent conversation. Sandy makes a superior product and he really cares about his customers.

I was delighted to see Frank Brownell and his son Pete of Brownells fame and we had a very nice conversation, I have been buying products from Brownells for 40 years. I used to buy all my supplies from Franks Father many, many years ago and he was a fine man.
I spoke with Tim Dillon and another man that I believe his name was Marc who works with Larry Weeks. They were very nice to talk with and I will always remember this show.

I spoke with Roy Huntington the new editor of American Handgunner Magazine and we had a nice conversation. He has a new magazine coming out and its called "AMERICAN COP" and I will do a future commentary on it that will enlighten all of you. I do not believe Roy had a booth set up at the show as I met him at the Brownells booth. There is not a more reliable company you could ever buy your supplies from than Brownells of Montezuma, Iowa.

I had a nice conversation with Rich Grassi who is a gun writer for Guns and Weapons for Law Enforcement. I am looking forward to Rich coming here to see me tomorrow and so I can explain what I do and show him jigs and tooling he has never seen before. Rich is very sharp and hes a very pleasant man to speak with.
We had a pre arranged meeting set at the Militec booth. It was mobbed with people at the militec booth as people were not only getting free samples of the product, they were being educated in the superior use of a product that does not have to be shaken up before use and there is nothing to separate.

My walking was very limited even using my cane but I did manage to speak with an official at the Colt booth who was very nice. eneral Keyes was not there. I expressed my views that it was Colts fault that there are so many other people cloning the 1911 pistol because Colt did not have their act together all these years. Colt should have been able to lock up the 1911 market with their skills and their superior steel. I for one would do all I could years ago for free to help Colt remain a leader in the 1911 market but they would not even discuss it with me at the time as they thought they knew it all.

I went by the SW booth looking for Tony Miele who I know for many years but he was not at the show. I would have really liked to see him as he is a very nice person and is sharp as a tack. I have always liked the SW line of third generation pistols, they get a bad rap from ignorant gun writers and the morons in the pink rubber ducky chat rooms. The SW 3913 (9mm) is one of the very best small single stack pistols made. Don't like what I am saying, tough, deal with reality.

I WILL CONTINUE THIS COMMENTARY LATER IN THE DAY.
I stopped by the Glock booth and had a very nice conversation with the Glock Rep from Texas about their current products. I have always been very partial to owning and carrying a Glock pistol. There were many people at the Glock booth as there were people everywhere at every booth. Its just unfortunate that I could not spend more time on my feet going to see other exhibits.

I had never dreamed that the George Brown convention center had been enlarged like it has. Its been so many years since I have been in that building I could barely recognize it. Many of my customers were there looking for me at the Militec booth and most of them found me there. They came from all over and its been a while since I have seen many of them. I was very happy to see my friend Arthur Lim, Don Beasely, Gene Sellers, Keith Schmidt, Rob Davidson, John DelToro, Johnnie Hoffman, Drew Varrett, etc, etc, etc. Too many to get their names spelled correctly. You must remember I am totally aware that I have an abrasive manor but I mean well and I tell the truth and my word means something and these people that know me for years understand how honest and sincere I am.

I would have liked the time and oportunity to talk with Rep. Tom Delay of Sugar Land but I did not see him. All and all it was a wonderful show and I am very glad I was able to go there and thanks to Charles Jacobson and Jeff Shamma I was very comfortable roaming around company booths where I may not be very well liked because of my telling it like it is. I am not about to become a politically correct person at this point in time. "IT IS WHAT IT IS"... I can not change a thing except I can shed some light of truth on these subjects which I will continue to do.

I have explained to many people that I will no longer make any custom 1911 pistols only because of my declining health. It takes me 90 hours to complete a custom 1911 pistol from scratch and in the past the pistol has never left my hands from start to finish. That is the very reason I would only make custom pistols made out of stainless steel as I refinished the satin areas myself before the custom logos were etched in place.

I WANT TO SINCERELY THANK ALL THE PEOPLE AT THE SHOW THAT MADE ME FEEL VERY COMFORTABLE, ESPECIALLY THE PEOPLE AT THE MILITEC BOOTH AND I THANK MY FRIENDS WHO OWN MILITEC, BRAD AND RUSS FOR BEING SO VERY NICE TO ME.

The opinions expressed in all my commentaries past and present are my own.

ON A PERSONAL NOTE TO ALL THE "GUYS" IN THE PINK RUBBER DUCKY CHAT ROOMS THAT GET 10 HITS A DAY OR WEEK WHO KNOCK MY PARTS AND MY TRIGGERS ITS BECAUSE THEY ARE TOO INCOMPETENT TO UNDERSTAND HOW TO USE THEM. I CUT MY OWN HAMMERS AND INSTALL MY OWN TAKE UP DEVICES THAT ARE YEARS AHEAD OF THESE HAS BEENS, THEY ARE A LEGEND IN THEIR OWN MIND AND MY GEOMETRY IS TOO ADVANCED FOR THEM. I SUGGEST THEY KEEP LOOKING FOR THE 10 DOLLAR McCORMICK TRIGGER WITH THE BENDABLE TABS AND THE 8 DOLLAR McCORMICK DISCONNECTOR WITH THE DO NUT AND THE 5 DOLLAR SEAR AND I WILL CONTINUE TO MAKE AN UP GRADE KIT WITH PREMIUM PARTS WITH OUT NEEDING THE FRAME IN FRONT OF ME. MY GOOD FRIEND Mr. CAMP HAS A WRITE UP ON HIS WEBSITE ABOUT HIS SA MIL-SPEC THAT HAS GONE 1200 ROUNDS WITHOUT HESITATION AND IS A TACK DRIVER WITH THE ORIGINAL BARREL. www.hipowersandhandguns.com
