FOR LOCAL PEOPLE THAT NEED HELP WITH A GARAGE DOOR, this following owner (RON JONES) helped me a great deal. www.totalgaragedoors.com

The selection of a weapon still remains at the top of discussions everywhere. There are many factors to consider that many people will not discuss like I will, because I have no agenda and all I want to do is tell you the truth. So many of the comments I hear and read are strictly BS and I am going to point you in the right direction but the choice is yours in the end. Most of these people are still fighting the caliber wars, then they get into which magazines are better and the list goes on and on with more of their BS because they simply do not know.

In order to select a handgun from todays market we must consider if you are male or female and its important whether you are right handed or left handed. Many women are better off using a revolver because they are unable to rack the slide of most semi auto pistols. A left handed person must be able to feel comfortable with the safeties on a semi auto and or the slide and magazine release. Its different for me because even though I am left handed I never use a safety and I never worry about changing the magazine, even though I started to carry an extra one.

There are much more important things to be concerned about. Before I get into that let me say once again that the best ambi (for right or left handed people) semi auto pistol in 9mm is still the HK P7 M8. There is not a better weapon that a south paw could pick, the sad part is that I understand it is no longer manufactured at this time. I hope HK will at least do a limited run. This pistol has a "CULT" following that is worldwide and with good reason. Its super reliable and super accurate. It operates using a gas retard system so its important to keep the gas port system clean. Marc at ISMI gunsprings now makes a recoil spring for this P7 using Chrome Silicon wire. You can call him at 800 773 1940.

It is very important that you read what my criteria is for purchasing a handgun. I will tell you what is so very important to me and if it applies to you write it down or simply print this out. I must be sure that any handgun I buy there will be no shortage of parts and or springs. There is no way I just change any hammer or trigger springs to a reduced power unless I have taken the friction out of the action. If I am very fond of a particular handgun and parts are not easily available, I always buy two or three of that very same model so that I could canabalize one in an emergency in order to keep it operational. I take no foolish chances and that is why I am still here.

I have seen the inside of well over one hundred different models of handguns in the past years. The current production handguns today are some of the poorest I have ever seen as compared to many years ago. These drastic modifications in these current production handguns has mainly one purpose in my opinion and that is to make the manufacturer money. Lets assume that a manufacturer comes out with a new model, one example I will tell you is that lets say it contains ten springs. This is now put out for bid and they usually go with a decent spring but it is cheap. Are there better ways to make springs, in my opinion of course there are but it cost more money.

The end result is to make this handgun with parts and springs as economically as possible so that the manufacturer can have more profit. I would rather pay an extra fifty dollars to get the better parts and or springs but they do not see it this way. In order to replace a simple extractor for a semi auto, that company must be willing to sell you the part. If not you must ship your pistol to the factory at great cost in overnight shipping and insurance and have the factory replace the extractor for you. This takes time, and as long as there is a factory and a carrier that is operational it can be done this way.

My concern is to be able to own a handgun that I can keep operational myself. I fully understand the need for the factory services in some circumstances but in this world of chaos we now live, the easier to get the part and fix it locally the better. In my case I am the only one in North America that just does trigger work on all these various models, and I do limited work as my health declines. The best revolvers I can find that are in current production at this point in time are the Ruger SP101 and the Ruger GP100. The down side to owning a Ruger is like other companies there are critical parts that they do not sell.

Most of these companies have a list of parts they deem critical that they will not sell to you or me. In a world gone mad this can be a major problem. We can just about discuss any company and if there are no after market parts being made by independent companies you could wind up with a paper weight. You think cause you own a custom 1911 pistol you are ok. well do not let me burst your bubble but if you have a very different diameter 9mm firing pin in your 45 auto, see if you can find extra firing pins that will fit. In reality these companies often change the diameter of their 9mm firing pins so that you must go to them in order to buy new ones that will fit without any modifications.

Now you are starting to understand what I am talking about. Lets briefly touch on the Kahr pistol, if you own any model other than the Elite 98 or the Polymer P9. I want you to try something. Make sure your pistol is empty and hold it sideways, while the trigger is forward you can still push it even further forward about 1/4 of an inch. Why ?? My opinion the springs are poorly designed and they probably were buying cost effective springs. In fact in any handgun no one says that all the springs are coming from the same manufacturer. I would think that each spring is bid out, where they get the best price they buy it.

Some people are very recoil sensetive and that may be an important factor in your selection process. The lighter in weight the handgun in the same caliber the recoil will be more severe depending on the ammunition you are using. For example if you start shooting an SW two inch barrel revolver chambered in 357 magnum, the alloy frame models will be felt much more than the all steel version of that same model using the very same 357 magnum ammunition. The alloy version will be much easier to carry but it will be uncomfortable shooting weekly using high performance ammunition. You must decide your intent on the handgun before you make that purchase.

If you are going to buy a handgun to carry, you must be aware of the accessories that you will need before you buy that model. Make sure if its a semi auto that you can buy original factory magazines for that model. You must find out if holsters are available for that model. Most new models you will have trouble finding these things until its been around for a while. After market companies are not going to make accessories on a new model handgun until they feel it will be a good seller so that there investment in aftermarket products will be a money maker. The name of the game still remains "FRANKLIN"...

I have been very pleased with carrying a 9mm Glock 19. I am not looking for a work of art but my Glock will work when I need it and the biggest problem I have always had was finding a left handed custom holster. I now go to www.lightningarms.com I strongly recommend the Milt Sparks Versa Max II inside the waist band holster, and now I am using one of Milt Sparks premium belts. You can always find parts and or springs for a Glock. I am using the flat recoil spring made by ISMI in Indiana. My personal handguns are kept very simple compared to other people.

This nonsense that has been talked about for years where you need a 45 acp to win a social encounter is pure BS. Using a good 45 acp cartridge is ideal as long as you pick the right projectile, this nonsense that a jacketed 230 grain ball projectile is the only way to go is just BS especially if you have a three inch barrel. If you ever have seen the magsafe video of their smaller calibers you would be shocked. You must evaluate your needs and requirements and go from there. STATE HI WAY PATROL officers often shoot at cars and in their scenarios they like a caliber that zips through car doors like the 357 sig caliber.

If I were looking for a handgun would start a list on a writing tablet of your requirements and what are the handguns most likely to fit your needs. Go to a local gun shop and put those models in your hand and then you will be able to decide what is best for you. If you need some direction you can email me at tjacobson@houston.rr.com Please ask me direct questions and I will do my best to help you.

I want to suggest that every home owner should own a shotgun with an 18 or 20 inch barrel. You can buy a Mossberg or a Winchester or a Remington. Most all the shotguns I have seen have an aluminum receiver except the Remington 870, which has a steel receiver. I do not think it will really matter much for home defense and they will all do their job providing you do yours. I like to use Remington Nickle plated #00 buckshot.

For those that want a close quarters assault rifle, I honestly think your best bet is buying a Bushmaster. The 223 caliber is light but up to 100 yds I see no problem. These military people know more about this than I do. The nato designation for 223 Rem is 5.56mm and much of what ammo we use is made in Israel, and its very good ammunition. There are some much better springs that are now available for the AR-15 that are made out of chrome silicon. I strongly recommend you use Militec metal conditioner. www.militec-1.com

We still want to have a few good knives and there are many good brands. I try and keep my knife blogger as up to date as time allows but you can always count on Cold Steel, CRKT, Spyderco, Benchmade, MOD, Microtech, SOG, etc. Its very important that you learn how to sharpen your knives whether it be a conventional plain edge or a serrated edge. One knife is never enough, as a general rule I believe in at least two knives at all times. If you want something that is good up close and personal look at a Karambit.

Israel Iran Nuclear Balance

One of many places Israel is itching to bomb.

By Martin SieffUPI Senior News AnalystWashington (UPI) Jan 05, 2006

The most dangerous strategic nuclear arms race in the world today is the one between Israel and Iran -- far more complex than almost anyone realizes and vastly more dangerous.

Ironically, the number of weapons involved on both sides are miniscule, not only by the standards of the U.S-Soviet/Russian Cold War nuclear balance, but also even compared with the much more limited strategic nuclear stand-offs centering around North Korea or India and Pakistan today.

But that does not really matter: Far more important is the fact that the margin for error or miscalculation on either side is vastly smaller than in any other potential nuclear conflict in the world. And the danger that either party may react catastrophically to the fear that the other will attempt a devastating preemptive first strike is consequently far greater.

Israel today has a far greater proportion of its population protected by state-of-the-art ballistic missile defense systems than any other country in the world. But since Israel is so small and since such a disproportionately large part of its population is vulnerably concentrated in a

single thermonuclear kill zone in and around Tel Aviv, that speaks less to the Jewish State's undoubted military and technological strengths than to its geographic and demographic vulnerabilities.

As Dore Gold, former Israeli ambassador to the United Nations and an influential adviser to Prime Minister Ariel Sharon told UPI recently, 70 percent of Israel's total population and 80 percent of

its infrastructure is concentrated in the Tel Aviv region. No other modern industrial nation has its population and key infrastructure so densely packed into such a small area, he noted.

Ironically less than 60 years after the founding of the state in 1948 the Zionist dr! eam, far from creating a state where large numbers of

Jews were safer and more secure than anywhere else in the world, has created one where millions of them are now at more immediate risk of nuclear incineration than anywhere else in the world.
The reason for this is not merely Iran's relentless drive to acquire its own nuclear weapons and the delivery systems to carry them. It is the extreme rhetoric and truly unpredictable behavior of the new government in Tehran.

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has publicly threatened to wipe Israel off the face of the earth. He has questioned the historic veracity of the Holocaust, the genocidal mass killing of six million European Jews by the Nazis through World War II. And at the same time, he has embarked on the systematic purging of the Iranian government and armed forces of more moderate officials.
The combination of Israel's physical vulnerability with Iran's political extremi! sm has, therefore, produced a balance of terror that is now on a hair- trigger

alert.

No one knows for sure if Iran yet has any nuclear weapons of its own. The best available assessments suggest it is not yet in a position to make them and won't have them for a few years yet, but no one knows for sure. And there is also the very real possibility that the CIA cannot confirm but cannot rule out either that Iran may have acquired at least four nuclear warheads some years ago illegally from

stocks decommissioned and inadequately guarded following the disintegration of the Soviet Union at the end of 1991.

There is no doubt that Iran already has nuclear-capable delivery systems capable of inflicting a first strike that could kill millions of Israelis, perhaps over the half the population in a single attack. Its Shehab-3 intermediate range missile has been successfully tested and is being continually upgraded. It is certainly reliable.

Also, Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko has confirmed that under the previous regime of President Leonid Kuchma, Ukraine quietly sold 12 nuclear-capable cruise missiles to Iran. They are far slower than the Shehab ballistic missiles but their computer-guided, ground-hugging unpredictable flight paths could make them far more dififcult to intercept and shoot down.

To guard against these threats, Israel has already developed or bought a formidable BMD arsenal. Its Arrow system anti-ballistic missile interceptor, co-built with Boeing, is the most advanced system of its kind in the world and was recently successfully tested against a simulated Shehab-3 attack. Israel also has acquired many batteries of the Patriot PAC-3 system from the United States.

Ironically, early Patriots got a raw deal in the press after they performed very impressively in defending Tel Aviv from Iraqi-launched SCUD missile attacks in the 1991 Gulf War. So! me U.S. analysts believe that this was encouraged by Israel to try and get more funding for the Arrow. But there is no doubt that for close-in ABM defense the Patriot remains the best interception system by far in the world.
The Israelis are also aided by the limited amount of air space they have to defend.

Still, like the Americans and the Soviets before them in the 1950s and '60s, the Israelis have come to the conclusion that no defense succeeds better than deterrence. As long as their own nuclear facilities -- the Dimona nuclear reactor in the Negev desert and Zacharias air force base south of Tel Aviv -- are limited in number and clearly known to their enemies, and since their main population is so concentrated and vulnerable, recent Israeli governments have recognized their need for a secure, survivable second-strike capability to guarantee a devastating response to any first strike, and they have deployed one.

It e! xists in the form of three German-built and supplied diesel-engineered submarines, or U-boats, that carry nuclear-capable cruise missiles. Israel seeks to ensure that at least one of these vessels is on patrol at all times. Indeed, Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's government is seeking to broaden and deepen this second-strike force by acquiring two more submarines to add to it.

The concept has impressed giant India so much that it has adopted it too as a second-strike deterrent against neighboring Pakistan. In India's case, the submarines are French-built Scorpenes.
Will it be enough? Against any rational national government, the answer would be certainly "yes." But with Ahmadinejad, the jury for obvious reasons is still out.

Ironically the Israelis and their strong friends in the Bush administration could yet prove to be their own worst enemies. For if there is one scenario where even previously rational national leade! rs, let alone extreme ones, might be tempted to press their nuclear launch buttons, it is when they are convinced that they are going to be attacked anyway and have therefore nothing to lose.

Judged from this perspective, Israel's previous exercises carrying out mock air attacks against a scale model of Iran's Bushehr nuclear reactor in the Negev desert, and the tough moves of the Bush administration to confront Iran on the nuclear issue, clearly run the risk of provoking the very thermonuclear nightmare they are meant to prevent: They could convince the government in Tehran that it is under imminent threat of U.S. or Israeli attack and thereby panic it into launching any nuclear weapons it already has.

In that case, Israel's ultimate line of defense would be its Arrows and its Patriots. There is no doubt that operationally they will work well: The as-yet-untested question is whether they will work flawlessly with only seconds to spare an! d no margin for error whatsoever. The lives of millions will be on the line.

Iran leader's messianic end-times missionAhmadinejad raises concerns with mystical visions

Iranian President Mahmoud's Ahmadinejad's mystical pre-occupation with the coming of a Shiite Islamic messiah figure – the Mahdi – is raising concerns that a nuclear-armed Islamic Republic could trigger the kind of global conflagration he envisions will set the stage for the end of the world.

While Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has been making headlines lately by questioning whether the Holocaust actually happened, by suggesting Israel should be moved to Europe and by demanding the Jewish state be wiped off the face of the earth, his apocalyptic religious zealotry has received less attention.

In a videotaped meeting with Ayatollah Javadi-Amoli in Tehran, Ahmadinejad discussed candidly a strange, paranormal experience he had while addressing the United Nations in New York last September.
He recounts how he found himself bathed in light throughout the speech. But this wasn't the light directed at the podium by the U.N. and television cameras. It was, he said, a light from heaven.

Ahmadinejad at the U.N.

According to a transcript of his comments, obtained and translated by

Joseph Farah's G2 Bulletin, Ahmadinejad wasn't the only one who noticed the unearthly light. One of his aides brought it to his attention.
The Iranian president recalled being told about it by one of his delegation: "When you began with the words ‘in the name of Allah,' I saw a light coming, surrounding you and protecting you to the end."
Ahmadinejad agreed that he sensed the same thing.

"On the last day when I was speaking, one of our group told me that when I started to say 'Bismillah Muhammad,' he saw a green light come from around me, and I was placed inside this aura," he says. "I felt it myself. I felt that the atmosphere suddenly changed, and for those 27 or 28 minutes, all the leaders of the world did not blink. When I say they didn't move an eyelid, I'm not exaggerating. They were looking as if a hand was holding them there, and had just opened their eyes – Alhamdulillah!"

Ahmadinejad's "vision" at the U.N. is strangely reminiscent and alarmingly similar to statements he has made about his personal role in ushering in the return of the Shiite Muslim messiah.
He sees his main mission, as he recounted in a Nov. 16 speech in Tehran, as to "pave the path for the glorious reappearance of Imam Mahdi, may Allah hasten his reappearance."

According to Shiites, the 12th imam disappeared as a child in the year 941. When he returns, they believe, he will reign on earth for seven years, before bringing about a final judgment and the end of the world.
Ahmadinejad is urging Iranians to prepare for the coming of the Mahdi by turning the country into a mighty and advanced Islamic society and by avoiding the corruption and excesses of the West.
All Iran is buzzing about the Mahdi, the 12th imam and the role Iran and Ahmadinejad are playing in his anticipated return. There's a new messiah hotline. There are news agencies especially devoted to the latest developments.

"People are anxious to know when and how will He rise; what they must do to receive this worldwide salvation," says Ali Lari, a cleric at the Bright Future Institute in Iran's religious center of Qom. "The timing is not clear, but the conditions are more specific," he adds. "There is a saying: 'When the students are ready, the teacher will come.''

For his part, Ahmadinejad is living up to at least part of his call to the faithful. According to reports, he lives so modestly that declared assets include only a 30-year-old car, an even older house and an empty bank account.

Ahmadinejad and others in Iran are deadly serious about the imminent return of the 12th imam, who will prompt a global battle between good and evil (with striking parallels to biblical accounts of "Armageddon").
An institute set up in 2004 for the study and dissemination of information about the Mahdi now has a staff of 160 and influence in the schools and children's magazines.

In Iran, theologians say endtimes beliefs appeal to one-fifth of the population. And the Jamkaran mosque east of Qom, 60 miles south of Tehran, is where the link between devotees and the Mahdi is closest.
Ahmadinejad's cabinet has given $17 million to Jamkaran.

Shiite writings describe events surrounding the return of the Mahdi in apocalyptic terms. In one scenario, the forces of evil would come from Syria and Iraq and clash with forces of good from Iran. The battle would commence at Kufa – the Iraqi town near the holy city of Najaf.
Even more controversial is Ahmadinejad's repeated invocation of Imam Mahdi, known as "the Savior of Times." According to Shiite tradition, Imam Mahdi will appear on Judgment Day to herald a truly just government.

Missed by some observers in Ahmadinejad's speech at the U.N. was his call to the "mighty Lord" to hasten the emergence of "the promised one," the one who "will fill this world with justice and peace."

Who stands in the Mahdi's way?
A top priority of Ahmadinejad is "to challenge America, which is trying to impose itself as the final salvation of the human being, and insert its unjust state [in the region]," says Hamidreza Taraghi, head of the conservative Islamic Coalition Society.
Taraghi says the U.S. is "trying to place itself as the new Mahdi." This may mean no peace with Iran, he adds, "unless America changes its hegemonic ... thinking, doesn't use nuclear weapons, [or] impose its will on other nations."
