My World of Future Handguns

WELCOME TO THE NO BS ZONE OF TEDDY JACOBSON

I have always thought about what I would like to see evolve out of the future of handguns. OF COURSE, the B.Franklin Advertising Agency would never allow this to happen but we can still talk about it, and dream about what could have been. Legal problems have in my opinion changed the direction of the future of handguns.

In the late 1980's I started to make hand drawings of pistols and revolvers using electronics. I have an electrical background besides my gun work. It was very easy for me to see a Police handgun that could be defeated if the Police officer lost his gun and was about to be shot by some animal who was now in posession of his or her Police pistol. The Police officer would have a remote control device pinned to his shirt and he would just push the button and it would send a signal to his own pistol activating a solenoid that would in turn block the trigger instantly from being pulled. This police handgun was totally deactivated until the officer had regained control of his weapon.

I tried to sell this idea to a number of people, but I found out the hard way that no one cared. It is my personal opinion only that talk of gun safety by the liberal media is total BS.
Then I designed an electronic chamber indicator, where a module was placed on the left rear of the slide and through a special integrated switch in the slide a RED LED light would come on in the rear module which would indicate that you had a bullet chambered. It used batteries and Lawyers shot it down. They were only interested in Mr. Benjamin on Franklin ave who had a new security guard named Willie (the actor) Sutton.

Then I wanted a high capacity magazine that had a digital readout, telling me how many cartridges I had left in my magazine. It would have a digital readout module on the very bottom of the magazine and the readout was facing the shooter with illuminated numbers.

My new semi auto would have to have roller bearings in the rail system so when integrated with the mating slide, it would be very easy and smooth as silk to rack the slide, even a frail woman of 100 lbs would have no problem pulling the slide to the rear. There would be a mechanical screw adjustment for frame to slide fit.

This pistol would have a card reader that would be able to read the owners right or left hand print on the fronstrap to activate the electronic firing pin system. This pistol would not have the traditional mechanical hammer and sear design. All circular rotating parts would be a sleeve bearing. I would want a replaceable or even a permanent barrel bushing but it would have to be ball bearings through out that was the only contact on the barrel.

There would be no metal to metal contact between major steel components, it would be either moly or ceramic coated. All springs would be made of stainless steel. The battery system would be the latest long life rechargeable battery and when the pistol was not being used it would be placed in the charging stand, much like your electric razor. Extra batteries would be carried and could be swapped out instantly. It would have a battery update indicator and a buzzer would go off or vibrate if the battery was getting low.

NOW there are many more things I can say about this futuristic semi auto but let me touch on the revolver of tomorrow, after I lock up Mr. Franklin before he has a stroke.

My new future revolver would have readouts on the back of the frame recoil shield area facing the shooter, which would tell the shooter how many chambers were loaded and which chamber was in line to be fired, the shooter would have to instantly know if his next chamber to be fired had a live round in it.
All mechanical rotating parts as in my semi auto dream gun would have Bronze Sleeve Bearings to create a glass smooth feel when the trigger is pulled in the DA mode. This revolver would come with different shaped cylinder release levers to suit an indivuals purpose. It would have replaceable front sights that the owner could change easily. Each revolver would come with electronic speed loaders that would cut down reloading time.

We will have all stainless steel parts and springs. No powdered steel, no plastic parts. I would prefer a front sight that had a jeweled type illuminated LED that is available in all colors. I want a revolver with a manual adjustment to change the poundage of the trigger pull for any specific need or requirement.

These are things that could have been that I have dreamed of, if we were not governed by the law suit mentality and if the manufacturers really wanted to do things for the gun owner and they had Carte Blanche.
In the reality of the world we live in with the $$$$$$$$$ in everyones eye balls, all I can say to sum it all up is a Brooklyn expression that I have heard all my life "FAGHETABOUTIT" .

I have not even scratched the surface of what I have in mind. Someday we can talk about bullets that interface with the front sight of your handgun, a Laser tracked bullet. I could go on and on. Thanks for being here.
