Browning Hi Power

In my opinion this is the finest handgun that John Browning ever designed. Mr. Browning was brilliant and the very first time I ever put one of these pistols in my hand, it made a lasting impression as it was the best feeling pistol I can ever remember. There are those people that continue to say it was the wrong caliber but using a BHP with proper ammo is a superb handgun.
This is a wonderful handgun and the trigger can be improved quite a bit. NO, you do not need to add new after market parts or re drill holes in the slide, to me that is nonsense, a Grand Jury would love that. The downside to this pistol is the magazine safety which scrapes the top of the magazine in the take up of the trigger. It should be removed providing you get written authorization from the owner of the BHP.

NOW that Hi Cap magazines are once again available you can easily get a 13 round magazine and with one round in the chamber using CORBON 100 grain 9mm POWER BALL, you have 14 rounds of pure HELL.

I remember going into a gun shop in Miami in the early 1960's and a brand new BHP was barely over $100.00. Many SMITHS have trouble understanding this pistol because when they work on the SEAR and the HAMMER it changes the geometry of where the thumb safety locks up the SEAR, and they create a gap between the thumb safety engagement where it should lock up the SEAR. causing an unsafe condition. It can easily be corrected when you understand the problem and know what to do.
TO CHECK YOUR BHP, IT MUST BE UNLOADED, PULL THE HAMMER BACK, LOOK AT THE BACK OF THE SLIDE JUST ABOVE THE HAMMER, THUMB SAFETY IS UP, SQUEEZE THE TRIGGER AND YOU SHOULD NEVER SEE THE SEAR RISE UP AT ALL.
IF IT DOES MOVE THE SEAR, YOU HAVE A PROBLEM. IT WILL BE VERY VISIBLE.

I do not use any after market parts as the original Factory parts are very good. This is an ELITE pistol in single action that is head and shoulders above the rest. We should be very thankful to John Browning for this handgun. It is in a class all by itself.
The new BHP pistols that are assembled in Portugal have an improved feed ramp and they do incorporate a firing pin block safety system. The pistol is furnished with a 32 pound hammer spring which is on the heavy side. I do not personally care for this model in the 40 S&W caliber, I would only buy it in the 9mm.

This World does not just revolve around the 1911 design. There are so many other superb handguns out there, giving you the opportunity to pick the right model for you. In the case of the BHP I tell all women to cock the hammer first in order to make it easier to rack the slide. WE OWE A GREAT DEAL OF GRATITUDE TO JOHN BROWNING.
