Questions & Answers Part 2

PLEASE SEND YOUR QUESTIONS TO ME VIA EMAIL FOR PART 3

Q = Is the Taurus 92 an exact copy of the Beretta 92F ?

A = They just look similar. Internally the Beretta 92F is far superior. The Taurus has a frame mounted thumb safety and the Beretta safety is in the slide. The internals of the Beretta are made and finished much better.

Q = What can you tell me about the reliability of the Beretta Cougar ?

A = The Cougar in 9mm was designed to use a 15 shot capacity magazine. It is very reliable and has a rotating barrel design which I like. I have found that if I bake a moly or ceramic coating on the barrel the cycling of the slide works much smoother. The basic action is similar to the 92F.
I keep a 9mm Cougar on my property for any emergency situation as it is flawless in operation.

Q = When I reload straight wall pistol cases I have a problem getting the case to hold the bullet tight enough.

A = Use a LEE FACTORY CRIMP DIE, they are available in most calibers and use it as your last step on your bullet, it will solve your problem. Another way is to put a shallow cannelure on the bullet itself, before any reloading procedure starts.

Q = How can I remove the scratches off my Stainless Steel satin finished handgun ?

A = Use a 3M blending pad which is available from Brownells or your local paint supply store.
Use the maroon colored pad first and then use the grey pad. Never use the green pad as its too course.

Q = How can I prevent rust on my blue finished carry handgun ?

A = Buy a SENTRY TUFF CLOTH from Brownells. They come in two grades, one is for severe environments. Use the cloth to wipe down your handgun every few days. You must remove the grips and put a film of Militec or Sheath oil on the frame metal once in a while.

Q = What is the best way to paint my front sight with fluorescent paint ?

A = Buy TESTORS white paint and first paint it on your front sight after it has been degreased. You must let it dry, then you can paint it with any fluorescent color of your choice, when it is dry you can either leave it alone or put a sealer on it.

Q = Why can't I assemble my 1911 pistol using the slide stop with out having to use a tool to depress the detent pin in the plunger tube ?

A = THIS PISTOL IS DESIGNED TO RE ASSEMBLE USING "NO" TOOLS. A few things could be wrong. The shoulder may be cut too deep within your plunger tube on the left side allowing the pin to stick out too far. This pin needs to be corrected. The spring may have a bad kink in it within the plunger tube. The slide stop may need to be modified to interface with the detent pin so it will push the pin into the plunger tube, that will eliminate the problem. Do not believe anyone that tells you that it requires the use of a tool for re assembly.

Q = Who makes the best Ankle holster ?

A = Lou Alessi in Amherst, New York.

Q = Which American ammunition do you like ?

A = All American ammunition is very good. Federal primers are very sensitive and work very well, buts its just a matter of personal choice.

Q = Which foreign ammunition do you like ?

A = ISRAELI ammunition (IMI) is first rate. They make 5.56 mm "Q" loads for Winchester.

Q = Why do some of these small 32 caliber semi autos have trouble ejecting the last empty case in the magazine ?

A = These tiny pistols do not have an ejector.

Q = When do you remove the magazine safety on a pistol ?

A = I only remove the magazine safety when it directly effects the trigger pull like on a BHP and I always get the owners authorization.
