Sig Sauer P220

This is without a doubt one of the most reliable 45 acp pistols you can buy. Law Enforcement agencies rate this pistol right at the top, just like I do. Many Federal people use this handgun and if maintained properly it seldom ever fails. It is a single stack design that will digest any bullet made. I work on this model and I very seldom have any feeding or extraction problems with this handgun. It has a single wire type trigger return spring which gives you a slow trigger return and Sig has now started to incorporate a newly designed return spring in some of their models, which does improve the trigger return efficiency.

It has an alloy frame that is hard anodized in Germany. The finish on the frame is excellent and you must never remove it and have it coated and or plated. If you doubt me call the factory and speak with them, they will tell you the same thing. It uses a decocking lever that is user friendly for RIGHT HANDED PEOPLE. It is accurate because of the excellent barrel and the way it locks up in the slide to retain repeatable lockup for consistent accuracy.
There are a number of after market barrels made but its not necessary as the factory barrel is very good. You do not want a barrel that is too tight because as metal gets hot it expands and you will have created a malfunction.

There is not a thing wrong with the sights although I like to paint them with fluorescent paint. I can also replace them with night sights. Front sights should have a number on them to indentify the height. A number of years ago the Sig factory redesigned this pistol and changed the hammer and strut and mainspring aka the hammer spring. The factory now offers a factory short trigger that is available for a smaller hand. I will not use any after market triggers for this models because in my opinion they are sub standard. This current model incorporates a RESET SPRING that the older model did not have. I prefer to have an older model but they are now hard to find.

A Sig 220 pistol, like the other models are UNFORGIVING if you reduce the hammer spring by cutting coils off, you are inviting disaster, you will have misfires.
One of Sigs new models is the P 220 ST which is "STAINLESS STEEL", it is a very heavy and very well made pistol and it works very well.

Anyone looking for a large frame 45 acp pistol that is needed for protection of life and property should give the Sig 220 top consideration as it does not get much better than this.
Being left handed I use other more user friendly handguns as I personally do not like to decock the hammer using my left index finger.
Most people do not realize how tough it is being left handed in a right handed world. The Sig factory offers a different magazine and or follower for the 220 for Police only allowing one extra round in the magazine. If you keep this pistol clean and well maintained and properly lubricated this 45 acp, unlike other designs will never let you down providing you use quality factory ammunition.

AUTHORS PERSONAL NOTATION. There are ignorant people that know nothing and continue to attack me on the forums, when they know I can not respond. NO ONE FORCES THEM TO READ MY COMMENTARIES AND IF THEY KNOW SO MUCH LIKE THEY CLAIM, WHY DON'T THEY START THEIR OWN INFORMATIONAL EDUCATIONAL HANDGUN LINK.
